Apple News:

  • Everyone - Apple Earnings Call (Full transcript available via SeekingAlpha.com):
    • Already sold more than 10 Million iPhones in 2008
      • Apple beat RIM in unit sales last quarter (Apple 6.9m, RIM 6.1m)
      • Apple 3rd largest phone maker in WORLD by REVENUE (4.6bn) - still only about a third of Nokia (12.7bn) but close to #2 Samsung (5.9bn).
      • App store sold about 2m apps in about 100 days - now 5,500 apps in store
    • Sold 2.6 Million Macs (most ever, 21% year-over-year growth)
    • Sold 11 Million iPods (8% year-over-year growth)
    • iTunes doing well (no interesting numbers given)
    • Apple Retail Stores doing well (37% revenue growth year-over-year and 42.7 million visitors!)
    • Total gross margin was 34.7% (better than expected), but as ususal Apple are guiding low for next quarter - 30% to 31%
    • Lots of cash on hand - "We are very pleased to have generated $3.7 billion in cash during the quarter, ending with $24.5 billion." ... "we have almost $25 billion safely in the bank and zero debt"
  • Mike - Apple & Psystar not really in negotiations - "It's standard practice, not for all courts, but the practice is growing. Quite frankly, all the talk about entering negotiations is really a non-story." - Via MacWorld UK
